Surplus heat: from waste to resource

Norwegian industry and data centres generate significant amounts of waste heat. Waste heat recovery can reduce both costs and emissions.

Large parts of Norwegian industry emit low-temperature heat that could be recovered. The same applies to data centres, where cooling demand produces heat well suited for local distribution to commercial buildings, residential areas or process industries.

The technology is mature. The challenge is more often the geographic proximity between source and off-taker, contractual frameworks for delivery and pricing, and the design of heat-pump solutions that raise temperatures to a usable level.

Several Norwegian projects have shown that payback periods can be short when government support, CO2 pricing and local district heating networks are in place. SustEvo works on mapping and designing such solutions together with industrial clients.
